Vilnius

Vilnius is the capital of Lithuania. The city was founded in the 13th century and currently has a population of slightly more than half a million people. Lithuania is the largest of the three Baltic States and over the centuries it has been subject to the influence of Russia, Poland and Germany. The landscape is diverse with gently rolling plains, extensive forests, Baltic coastline. Some people claim that the geographical centre of Europe is approximately 20km North of Vilnius.
Summers can be hot, with temperatures above 30oC throughout the day – in Vilnius the average temperature for July is 17oC. Nightlife in Vilnius is in full swing in Summer and outdoor bars and cafés are very popular during the daytime.
