THANK YOU BOB

On behalf of all delegates whom attended Green5, we would like to thank Bob Sarsby for organising such an excellent conference.

The event passed off very smoothly due to Bob’s excellent organisational and communication skills in, at times, very demanding circumstances.

The conference papers covered a wide range of relevant topics of international interest and were extremely diverse. We are sure that all delegates benefited from the nature and scope of the presentations.

The posters were very impressive, well presented and exhibited a diverse range of research.

WELCOME

Throughout the centuries the construction industry has supported (both directly and indirectly) the development of society and has made major contributions to the living standards of mankind, e.g. clean water supply, sewage treatment, durable and efficient buildings, safe disposal of wastes, transport networks. At the same time the construction has an obligation to make the best use of the earth’s resources and to preserve the environment for future generations.

The GREEN conferences are a four-yearly series of international gatherings that were inaugurated in 1993 to provide a forum for the exchange of ideas and new developments relating to the interaction between construction and the environment. To date GREEN conferences have been held in Germany, Poland and the UK with themes of;

  1. Engineered waste disposal by landfill
  2. Contaminated land
  3. Exploitation of mineral resources and the consequences
  4. Waste disposal

The purpose of GREEN5 is to examine the contribution of construction to achieving a sustainable environment, e.g. by providing ways to protect the natural and built environment from the effects of climate change, by using up waste materials produced by other industries at the same time conserving primary resources, by creating durable systems to contain refuse and ground contamination to provide natural organisms with the time to breakdown and neutralise pollutants.

The Organising Committee believe that you will find the theme of GREEN5 thought-provoking and that the actual conference will be informative and stimulating – we hope to see you in Vilnius.
